Tomato fig salad with garlicky balsamic vinaigrette

The last of the summer produce is so good, and I am I love with everything tomato right now! My absolute favorite ones are the Early Girl tomatoes, but if you can't find them, you can always use regular tomatoes or sweeter cherry tomatoes. The figs make the salad super interesting, and you can use any figs you want - even dried ones if you can't find fresh ones. Check out little princess in the garden picking tomatoes. Also check out some of my other favorite tomato recipes: Tomato salsa Homemade tomato sauce Preparation time: 5 minutes Makes 1 serving: 4 Early Girl tomatoes or 2 regular tomatoes, chopped 3 Mission figs, chopped For the dressing: 3 basil leaves, finely chopped 1 garlic clove

Down the social media rabbit hole

Today I went down a social media rabbit hole at 5.13am. I know what a weird time to be up and about. But it’s the only time I get to write, and move, and meditate, and do all the things that fill up my cup before the house gets loud and crazy. The mistake I made was to look at my phone when I came down into the kitchen to make myself some warm water with lemon. I usually have a policy to never look at my phone before I haven’t finished my whole morning routine, and get started on breakfast. I can’t even tell you why I looked at my phone while the kettle was doing its thing. Boredom? Habit of opening and closing apps? Either way, it happened. And oh woman, I went down a social media rabbit ho

Zucchini cacao muffins

We have put so much love and care into our garden this summer, and it is rewarding us handsomely. We are flooded with apples, zucchini, celery, lettuce, and more, and I am loving it. It makes me be creative in the kitchen with the sudden influx of certain produce. We have made an endless amount of zucchini noodles, I have made huge batches of this summer squash lentil soup, and last night we had the zucchini spring salad. I often add zucchini to baked goods, but have realized that there is not a single recipe for it here on the blog. So here we go! Cacao is perfect anytime you want to add a veggie to a sweet dish, because it pretty much covers taste and color of anything. Give these a try, y

Book of the month: September

“I don’t want or need a guru. My uncertainty and my anchor, my questions and answers, my search and my truth all lie within my soul. The same is true for every one of us. We may rely on others and turn to others for help, but ultimately our answers come from within.” When Deepak Chopra’s daughter struggles with living a meaningful life with healthy eating habits, exercising, meditating, being present, taking care of herself - you know, everything we “regular” people struggle with - then I feel somewhat better about all of my own screw ups and bad habits I can’t seem to kick. Mallika Chopra entwines her story of her personal upbringing with one of the New Age thought leaders of our generation

For all new mamas-to-be

YouTube Friday is here! I have been getting many requests from new mamas-to-be for exercises they can safely do all the way until birth. Here is a third trimester video for you, where you will need a mat, a chair, a couple of pillows (or a yoga bolster), and two yoga blocks (or smaller pillows, books, a stepping stool). The third trimester is all about preparing your body for birth, and easing any aches and pains. This is not the time to get your high intensity workout in. Take it easy, and control your movements through breath deep into your core. If you want more core related exercises for pregnancy, also check out this video. If you enjoy the video, give it a thumbs up, and I hope to see

Strawberry white chocolate cookies

Today is the day - summer break is over and Baby Zand started school. She was so good. Walked in, said hello, and started playing. She gave me a quick kiss, and that was it. I am so glad she didn't cry, but I was bawling on the inside. After spending the last two months with her every single day, this was a huge adjustment. I've been feeling naked all day - somehow like a part of me is missing. But I also got to have some time to think, which was epic. My brain was suddenly free to map out the next few months until end of the year, I got to catch up with my bestie, and I've been making final edits on the upcoming detox ebook. All in all a great first day of school, that could only get better
