It's YouTube Friday, and today I have a video for all us moms out there. I always like to joke that we need circus skills to maneuver a child around. Before Baby Zand started crawling into her own car seat, it was a daily balancing act on one foot while leaning into the car with 10kg/ 20lbs in my outstretched hands. It was never glamorous, and often, if I wasn't conscious, I pulled my core muscles in all the wrong ways, causing me debilitating back and stomach pain. Not fun! The reality is that kids never get lighter, and ideally we grow stronger with them. However, even if our arms can keep up, one sided movements such as always carrying our toddler on one hip can leave us curved in all the wrong ways, and more susceptible to back pain, headaches, and hernias. In today's video I will share exercises to balance out both sides of your body sprinkled with tips on how to pick up your child while engaging your core, and even how to get up off the floor without your hands when kids hang on your back. I know, I've been through all of this myself :-). Of course we never fully remember the correct way to move when we are in the midst of picking up our child, but the more we practice correct movement patterns, the more second nature it will be for our body. Come and join me; it takes less than 30 minutes to align and strengthen your whole body.
If you are still trying to find the time to exercise with your little one around, then check out my top 5 tips right here.
I would love to hear from you! Let me know in the comments below what kind of video you would like to see next.
Have a great weekend!
