Welcome to today's Yoga Nidra session. Every day over on Instagram and Facebook I am giving you a #selflovejanuary ritual, and today I am talking about how to deeply restore throughout the day even if you didn't get a lot of sleep the night before.
Yoga Nidra helps us to turn inwards and relax our entire body deeply to put healing processes into place, to restore our energy, and to "catch up" on sleep. We almost float out of our body and just become very aware of how our body is relaxing. A 30 minute Yoga Nidra practice is as effective as 1/3 of your sleep that you spend in the most healing, deep delta sleep state. That means we have an incredibly powerful tool to make up for hours of lost sleep with young kids around. This can have potentially huge effects on our immune system, on our energy levels, and our entire life.
To join me today you need a few props:
a yoga mat or soft carpeted area to lie on (don't lie in bed - your body associates your bed with sleep, which is what we want to avoid)
a small blanket to pad your spine
a small pillow or neck roll for your head
a big pillow or blanket for your knees
a big blanket to cover your entire body
a sweater and cozy socks
an eye pillow or towel to cover your eyes
This is a ritual you can do every afternoon to help you restore energy for the rest of the day. Make sure to not do this practice just before you go to bed as you will feel invigorated.
I hope you enjoy today's session.
