Last weekend we went to a pumpkin patch in flowy summer dresses in extreme heat. Today, I turned on the heater. I am ready for the fall to be here, for my Ugg boots to come out, for wooly hats, and leg warmers. And for beautiful warming breakfast bowls that help me get out of bed.
This fall-inspired oatmeal combines pumpkin, apples, maple syrup, pecan nuts, and gorgeous spices. Everything you need to get out of bed in this cold!

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Makes 1 serving:
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup grated apple
2/3 cups water
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
pinch of nutmeg
maple syrup or maple butter
a handful of pecan nuts or walnuts
Place all ingredients into a small pot and simmer for 5 minutes until creamy.
Top with maple syrup or maple butter and a handful of nuts.
