Since I am spending the beginning of the new year in New Zealand with my family, I only thought it appropriate to make a green smoothie recipe with some of my favorite local ingredients. I am sure you can find these in a well stocked supermarket or farmers market anywhere in the world!
Since I want to share more healthy habits this year, I thought it only right to make a green smoothie my first recipe of the year. Green smoothies are my favorite way to include more leafy greens for energy, minerals, and vitamins. If there is only one thing you're changing this year, make it a green smoothie every morning. Your digestion, your skin, your hair, your nails, your energy levels, your muscle recovery, and your health will all thank you for it! After a decade with these glorious concoctions, I can't live without my daily green smoothie fix anymore. Give it a try!
Now this is a really "green" green smoothie. What do I mean by that? It's bitter and tastes a bit like grass, which is great if you've been drinking green smoothies for a while. If this is your first one, maybe add a banana to this mix, or try one of my other recipes for a sweeter, less bitter version: The Tropical Green Smoothie or It's All Peachy Green Smoothie.
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Makes 1 big green smoothie or 2 small ones:
- 1 yellow kiwi (can be substituted for green one)
- ½ avocado
- juice of ½ lemon
- piece of fresh ginger without the skin, size of your fingernail
- handful of kale, leaves only, no stems
- handful of spinach
- handful of lettuce
- 250ml cold water
Blend everything in a blender on high for 90 seconds until smooth and creamy. Enjoy right away!
