Warming banana breakfast bowl

The last super simple recipe for #selflovejanuary is here, and it is delicious! Seriously, this recipe could not be any simpler. You combine oats with whatever nuts and seeds you have in the house, and cook them in a delicious banana "milk". The whole bowl is only sweetened with banana, so it's easy on your blood sugar levels. Cinnamon and cardamom give it the warm, wintery feel, and the chopped nuts and seeds give it a nice crunch. This recipe will be a hit with the kids, I promise. 

 

In case you want to make this completely nut free, just use more seeds. And if you don't have all three kinds of seeds, use whatever you have instead. There are no rules with this recipe, it will turn out super delicious either way! 

 

 

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Makes 1 big or 2 small (children's) servings: 

 

- 1 banana

- 1 1/2 cups water 

- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (make your own here

- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 

- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom (if you don't have this, then don't worry!) 

 

- 1/2 cup rolled oats

- 1 Tbsp hemp hearts

- 1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds

- 1 Tbsp sunflower seeds

- 1 Tbsp raw almonds, roughly chopped

 

  1. In a blender, combine the banana, water, vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom. Blend on high for 15 minutes until creamy. 

  2. Add the oats, hemp hearts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and the almonds in a small pot. Combine with the banana "milk", and bring to a simmer for 10-12 minutes until creamy. 

  3. Serve right away.
