Hydrating skin mist for airplane trips

February 27, 2018

The time is here! By the end of this week I will be embarking on a trip - all by myself! No baby attached. I am excited and super worried of course. I keep repeating the mantra "Baby Zand will be fine!". And then I think of all the wonderful things that I can do when I travel alone: read a book on the plane, actually get some sleep, pee whenever I need to, and not lug around an entire roomful of toys for her entertainment. After Arman presented me with a list of foods I need to pre-cook for him and Baby Zand so they survive the weekend (yes, that really happened), I am now in super preparation mode to get everything done, and packed, and ready to go. Today I wanted to share a super quick and easy recipe for a hydrating skin mist for traveling. I hate nothing more than sitting on a plane for 12 hours, feeling yucky, and like my skin is going to break apart from being so dry. So I always travel with this hydrating mist, even when Baby Zand comes with me (she actually loves this one, too!). It's much cheaper than any mist you can buy at the airport, it takes one minute to whip up, and you can use this anytime your skin is dry - even in the winter months in case you're not traveling.

I am extremely lucky to have an aloe plant in my garden - I know, it's incredible! So I scrape out some fresh aloe from the leaves. If you don't have fresh aloe, use any store bought kind. Try to look for some that wasn't colored - aloe is actually clear, but most brands color theirs green.

Preparation time: 1 minute

Makes 1 small spray bottle 100ml/ 3.3oz:

- one spray bottle (you can get these at the dollar store or in health food stores if you are looking for BPA free ones)

- filtered water

- aloe vera gel

- essential lavender oil

  1. Fill a quarter of the small bottle with aloe vera gel.

  2. Add 10 drops of essential lavender oil.

  3. Top with filtered water, and shake.

  4. Store in your carry on. Shake before you use it. I like to spray it every hour or so to feel calm, hydrated, and fresh on the plane.

Happy Monday everyone!
